University of Iowa Center for Biocatalysis and Bioprocessing
CET subcontracts downstream protein purification of its mammalian and human-cell protein production to the University of Iowa Center for Biocatalysis and Bioprocessing (UICBB). CET will oversee the entire process so that potential clients do not have to conduct separate agreements and multiple lines of communication. UICBB offers an experienced professional staff and state-of-the-art fermentation and purification facilities services. UICBB offers protein purification under non-GMP and GMP conditions. The UICBB is located on the University of Iowa Research Park within short walking distance to CET.
UICBB interacts with more than 60 different clients each year. UICBB has long term collaborations and commitments with several clients, some of them spanning over 15 years and 40 separate projects. UICBB clients cover the entire range of corporate size, and include the nation's foremost universities and institutions. Geographically, UICBB-clients range from Europe to New Zealand; but majority are from the United States of America.
An experienced expert staff operates CBB's state-of-the-art upstream and downstream processing facilities. The UICBB develops, evaluates, optimizes, and scales up bio-based products in volumes ranging from 1 to 1,000-L. Typically, they bring research findings from the bench through the first stages of scale-up. The more than 20-member lab staff's extensive experience includes a wide-range of organisms, notably high-cell-density recombinant E.coli and Pichia pastoris. Products produced cover the complete range of interest - vaccines, enzymes, immobilized catalysts, antibiotics, therapeutics, nucleotides, polysaccharides, peptides, polymers, and biochemicals. The development process is rapid, economical and can be easily transferred to UICBB cGMP Laboratory.
UICBB produces bulk biopharmaceuticals for evaluation. The Center has considerable experience purifying fermentation-produced biological materials. Typical operations may include diafiltration, ultrafiltration and complex chromatographic separations.
Clients find the UICBB's business practices fast, efficient and easy. The period from initial contact to the start of work in the laboratory often takes only a few weeks. Typical projects start with a Confidentiality Agreement, allowing the exchange of necessary information. UICBB follows this with a Service Agreement and/or proposal outlining the protocol, estimated costs and timing.
